We got a camper! Now, how do we use this thing???

If you’re new(ish) to this RV camping thing like we are, you might find yourself spending hours at a time surfing the Internet trying to compile the best places for trusted advice and how-to tutorials. Even if you’re a seasoned camping veteran, it never hurts to discover new methods and tricks to make your RV life even more fun.

We compiled a list of top online resources we consistently click on to help us learn the RV camping ropes. Bookmark these sites so you can quickly reference them the next time you need to find an answer to a camping question!

  1. Everything About RVing.com

This site pops up every time I type a question into Google, and it has tons of tips and tricks on how to make traveling in your camper more efficient, to answering basic maintenance questions and more. What it lacks in fancy visuals it more than makes up for in the quality of the Q&A content.

2. Go RVing.com

This site is run by the Go RVing Coalition, formed in 1994, and consists of RV manufacturers, component suppliers, dealers and campgrounds. It gives a good basic overview of the types of RVs, travel trailers, fifth-wheels, pop ups and more on the market today. If you’re brand new to RV camping (like we are), this is a good place to start the education process. They also have blog with rotating guest bloggers writing about different adventures and RV camping experiences for you to enjoy.

3. Pinterest

If you haven’t discovered the black hole of all DIY and cooking tips on the Internet that is Pinterest, allow us to introduce it to you. In addition to finding a recipe for the best chocolate cupcakes, it’s also a great resource for tons of RV camping tips and tricks, including links to many how-to articles. Just type in “RV Camping” and see what happens!

I personally love to look up camper remodel ideas and see how creative people have transformed their existing RV into something you’d see on an episode of HGTV. My attempts are usually front runners for the Pinterest Fails category, but it’s fun to look at how other talented people have upgraded their cute campers!

4. KOA RV Travel Tips

Brent Peterson does a great job of writing succinct, understandable articles for newbie RVers. Worth a bookmark so you can reference his various checklists, things to leave behind, maintenance guidelines and more.

5. Your RV model forums and online groups

As mentioned in our last post, we selected a Coachmen Apex Nano 193bhs model as our first travel trailer. Luckily, there’s a whole forum dedicated to this brand, with tips and insight from other Coachmen owners.

Other RV and camper manufacturers have similar online groups and forums you can participate in. It’s a good place to ask a specific model question or look up maintenance advice.

6. Learn to RV.com

This is a really well laid out site with great how-to articles about RV maintenance, RV gear, and “mods,” (did you know that stood for modifications – i.e. what kind of RV mod did you make on your rig? Learning new things all the time in this journey).

It also has some campground and product reviews you can read through. My favorite bookmarked article so far on this site is: The Basics of RVing.  It’s easy (for me) to feel overwhelmed at all of this new information about RV life, so having one article that helps break it down about what you really need to get started, and what can wait until future trips, was really helpful.

What RV online resources are your “go to” websites when you need to answer a question about your camper, or get inspiration about camper decor? I’d love to add some new blogs and websites to my bookmarked files!

Happy camping!

Liza
