Our family loves to hike. We’re so fortunate to live in Greenville, SC, which is just a stone’s throw from some amazing hiking trails along and near the Foothill Mountains and Blue Ridge Parkway.
We started to take our two boys hiking when they were small – I think our youngest was three when we started just exploring some easy mile-long footpaths. We’ve branched out and tackled some bigger ones since then – the longest being a 7.2 mile (roundtrip) to the summit of Table Rock, SC.
There were times, though, when our kids didn’t love the crisp air and foliage as much as we did – cue the whining, crying, and the “why do I have to keep walking?!”
So we created a scavenger hunt list to give us something to keep us occupied and engaged in our family hike. This list is great for little ones just getting started on their hiking journey, and helps them connect with the woods and everything in it just a little bit more.
I created this Family Hike Scavenger Hunt as a free printable, too! Just print this off and throw it and a pencil in your backpack and you’re off!
You could even use this list on short nature walks around your home town if you’re not planning any big hikes in the near future. Anything to get the kids outside and enjoying nature is the whole point!
I hope you have fun completing the Family Hike Scavenger Hunt! Come back and let us know how you did!
