Campground review: Charleston/Mt. Pleasant KOA

It’s Spring Break time, and we took the opportunity to visit a new campground in our home state of South Carolina, the Charleston/Mt. Pleasant KOA. Charleston is just a few hours away from Greenville, making it a great long weekend getaway for us.

We’ve stayed at several KOA campgrounds around the Southeast, and the Charleston/Mt. Pleasant KOA Holiday ranks up there as one of our all time favorites! We were late getting out of town on our departure day, putting our arrival after dark closer to 9 p.m. The front office was kind enough to coordinate our arrival time, and make sure a host was available to guide us to our spot, despite the late hour.

Waterfront Camping on Lake Keowee at Mile Creek Park

Lake Keowee camping

Living in Greenville, S.C., we are blessed to be close to some amazing lakes. In about an hour, you can be waterside at several of the picturesque lakes Upstate South Carolina has to offer.

We recently spent a weekend camping at Mile Creek Park in Pickens County, on beautiful Lake Keowee. We were able to enjoy lakefront living in our camper for about $20 per night. Incredible!

Camp Site Review: Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort

The Family Glampers

We just returned home from our Spring Break trip to Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort, on Hilton Head Island, S.C.

This was our first time at the resort, and I can say without reservation, it currently holds the top-ranked places we’ve glamped so far.  Continue reading “Camp Site Review: Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort”

Let’s get rollin’: 2018 Travel Trailer Camping Trips

It’s the end of February, which means in just a few short weeks, Bessie the Travel Trailer will be out of storage and hitting the road! As you know, most popular campground and RV camp sites fill up very quickly (seriously, some of these places are harder to get in to than FastPasses at DisneyWorld!), so we’ve already mapped out our travels for the first half of the year.

Here’s where we’ve booked some trips so far this year – have you been to any of these?

Camp site review: Devil’s Fork State Park, Lake Jocassee, SC

Devils Fork State Park Lake Jocassee - The Family Glampers

If you’ve ever had the good fortune to be able to spend time on Lake Jocassee in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, you know the true beauty of the area. The crystal clear, cold water surrounding by panoramic views of the mountains is spectacular. Since the water comes from up in the mountains, it’s almost always cold, which makes it a great getaway for hot summer days.

The lake was actually created by damming and flooding the town that previously resided there. In fact, the land itself was Cherokee Indian land, with markers around the area explaining the area’s rich history.  Continue reading “Camp site review: Devil’s Fork State Park, Lake Jocassee, SC”

Camp Site Review: Edisto Beach State Park

the Family Glampers campsite at Edisto Beach

We’re just finishing up our Spring Break, where we had a chance to sneak down to Edisto Beach State Park for a few days with the camper! It was the A) longest trip we’ve taken the camper so far and B) the farthest away from home.

We camped at Edisto Beach State Park from Sat. – Tues., having made our reservations months in advance (RV camping in state parks is not always for the spontaneous because the spots fill up so fast!).

Camp site review: Keowee-Toxaway State Park

Keowee Toxaway State Park-The Family Glampers

We made a quick trip up to Keowee-Toxaway State Park the weekend of March 25, and we had such an amazing time! It was our first time to this state park to camp, so I thought I’d share our experience with you, in case you’re planning a trip to this spot sometime soon!

Camp Site Review: Table Rock State Park

The Family Glampers

Happy Wednesday, folks! We don’t know about you, but we’re already in the throes of planning out our camping trips for 2017. (This is in part due to how fast the state park camp sites fill up in North Carolina and South Carolina, and also because we have to submit vacation days off requests, work around school calendars, etc.).

We try to do a ton of research on sites like ReserveAmerica, TripAdvisor and the plain, ole Internet to try to find camp sites that are 1) within driving distance from us in Greenville, S.C., and 2) have good outdoor activities for us – be it hiking, swimming in the lake, kayaking, etc.

We thought we’d start a new series here on The Family Glampers to review the camp sites we visit to provide another resource for YOU as you’re planning your next trip. First up: Table Rock State Park in Pickens, S.C.
