Let’s say you’re lucky enough to find your RV or camper parked right next to some sandy shores, watching the tide roll in. Heavenly, right??
And it IS heavenly, until you realize you’ve tracked so much sand into your rig your space starts to resemble the Sahara Desert.
Frequent sweeping and mopping your floor can certainly help get the sand out once it’s in there, but what if you could keep the sand from tracking in the first place? We just returned from a camping trip to Miramar Beach, FL, and we learned some beach hacks while we were there that were priceless!
- Set up an outdoor rug outside of the door.
We found a reversible outdoor rug that measures 9×12 that works well to keep dirt and sand outside where it belongs. It’s easy to sweep and hose off, and then you just fold it up when you’re done. We store it in the storage areas of our camper.
I found a similar rug on Amazon* that even has its own carrying case and stakes you can use to secure it into the ground. I like that it’s reversible, too!
2. Create a rinse station.
Set up a foot rinse station just outside your door for people to dip their feet to wash off before entering the RV. One of those flat, rectangular plastic storage containers works great – when it’s not in use as a rinse station, you can use it to store other things. Keep a folding towel rack with a towel nearby to dry off feet after you’re done.
3. Behold the power of baby powder.
This beach hack was probably our favorite one to use when we were in Florida. Once you’ve rinsed and dried off your feet, sprinkle your feet with baby powder and then knock the powder off with a towel. Any remaining sand will just fall right off! (Tip: when we didn’t have the rinse station set up, we just went straight to the baby powder and most, if not all, of the sand came off of our feet). Then you just sweep the residual baby powder off of your outdoor mat.
If you’re camping at the beach, you’re inevitably going to track some sand into your RV or travel trailer. But you can keep the sand outside where it belongs with just a few simple tricks.
What other beach hacks do you have for keeping your camper clean while you’re staying at the shore? We’d love to hear from you! Enjoy your time at the beach!
