Living in Greenville, S.C., we are blessed to be close to some amazing lakes. In about an hour, you can be waterside at several of the picturesque lakes Upstate South Carolina has to offer.
We recently spent a weekend camping at Mile Creek Park in Pickens County, on beautiful Lake Keowee. We were able to enjoy lakefront living in our camper for about $20 per night. Incredible!
Mile Creek Park offers 69 campsites with water and electric hook ups. There is a dump station near the entrance to the park. The campground is large and spread out, with winding roads that take you right out to a point on the lake. Almost all of the sites have some sort of water view, even if you’re not considered water front.
There’s also a boat launch ramp with additional parking, as well as two new boat docks which you can rent for a separate fee while you’re there. There are several places on the lake to rent boats – we rented a pontoon boat for the weekend, and had a blast taking the boys up to Jumping Off Rock, tubing and just cruising around the lake.
A note about the sites and parking your camper. The roads in this campground are narrow and windy. A few of the sites we saw (number 62, specifically), has the water connection on one side of the site, and the electric connection on the opposite side. Unless you’ve got a really long extension cord, or a really long water hose, it’s not going to work. Definitely call to inquire about how your site is set up before you get there to avoid any surprises.
Also, while the sites are very spacious – we never felt like we were close to our neighbors – parking in them can be a little tricky. Robbie, the campground host, was amazing at helping us navigate backing into our site and helping us get it level. (Side note: another reason I love camping is how people are so willing to help you whenever you need it!).
There are bath houses dotted around the campground, and while there are signs encouraging you to use the facilities in your camper as much as possible to reduce foot traffic in the bathrooms due to COVID-19, when we did check them out we found them to be very clean and well maintained.
This campground is very family and pet friendly. We saw a small playground, a basketball court, and several small beaches where kids can swim and play. Our boys found a cool rope swing where they spent hours swimming while we were there!
There’s no WiFi here that we could tell, but you’re on the lake. This is the perfect place to relax and unplug.
You cannot put a price on the sunset views you get on Lake Keowee, and Mile Creek Park is the perfect place to watch the sun go down. We even captured a beautiful rainbow after a quick storm passed through the area.
For the price, Mile Creek Park is an amazing campground to spend time on Lake Keowee! We will definitely be back to this spot. Check out this short video we took from the boat to give you a sense of how the campground is laid out!
