It’s still February, but we’ve been planning our 2021 camping season for several months now! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic still gripping our area, as well as just scheduling conflicts (kids and their activities, amIright?!), we’re somewhat limited geographically in terms of how far we can travel this year.
But we know camping is our happy place, and I think we all need as much happy as we can get in our lives right now!
We’re hitting Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach for Spring Break in April (full disclosure: this was not our first choice. We prefer state parks and smaller, privately owned campgrounds if we can find them). But unfortunately, even when we started planning our Spring Break travel last fall, all of the state parks along the NC/SC/GA/northern FL coast were already booked. It seems we’re not the only ones with the camping fever right now.
So we’re going to travel to Ocean Lakes and give it a whirl. We’re fully aware of what we’re getting into there – much more packed in, very little shade, lots of people. Those are the cons. But the pros: beach, sun, beach, sun, beach, sun. We’re looking on the bright side here.
What are your must-haves when researching a campsite? What are you willing to let go to get a spot?
We’re hitting some of our favorites near our local lakes near home of Greenville, S.C. We’ll also hop back up to Mama Gertie’s in Asheville in the summer because it’s a great way to beat the summer heat (and those mountain views are incredible at sunset!).
And we’re hoping to find some new honey holes this fall – fingers crossed Clemson football is allowing fans in the stadiums again, because it’s fun to take the camper to some away games!
Where are you planning to camp in 2021? Are you finding many of your destination campgrounds are already booked up? How are you finding new places instead?
We’d love to hear what you’re planning. We campers have to stick together!
