How to be a Good Camping Neighbor

One of the best things about camping can be that you’re surrounded by lots of other people who enjoy spending time exploring the great outdoors like you. But depending on what type of campsite or RV resort you’re staying, sometimes you can feel like you’re parked right on top of your next door neighbor.

Given how close RVs can be parked together in some places, it helps to know some basic house rules when it comes to being a good neighbor in a campground.

Weekend Trip RV and Travel Trailer Camping Packing List (with FREE printable!)

The Family Glampers

When we first started camping in our travel trailer, I scoured Pinterest for all kinds of packing lists to help us get started on our journeys. I’m a planner – always have been and probably always will be – and I wanted to make sure we were completely, 100% prepared for any eventuality.

| The result? A lot of purchased gear we’ve never used, and a lot of extra Shopping expenses.

So I created a packing list for those of us who like to camp for long weekends, who don’t need to pack everything and the kitchen sink. (Some of these items you might even leave in your travel trailer for your next trip). This list would also work well for tent camping, too.

I included this list as a FREE printable below so you can print it out and check it off the next time you’re planning your weekend get away!

Camp Site Review: Misty Mountain Camp Resort, Charlottesville, VA

The Family Glampers

We had a chance to visit Misty Mountain Camp Resort near Charlottesville, Virginia over the summer for a long weekend, and it was such a great time!

Misty Mountain is centrally located to all the area’s sites and attractions: Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, the University of Virginia, the Blue Ridge Parkway, hiking, tubing, and not to mention the many wineries and breweries.  Continue reading “Camp Site Review: Misty Mountain Camp Resort, Charlottesville, VA”

Camp Site Review: KOA Holiday Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, TN

We just got back from our first trip to the KOA Holiday Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, TN, and we couldn’t wait to share our review with you! This was our first time staying at a KOA property, so we weren’t sure what to expect. But if you’re the type of glamper (like we are) that pretty much wants the amenities of a hotel, but while staying in your RV or travel trailer, then this place is for you!  Continue reading “Camp Site Review: KOA Holiday Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, TN”

Let’s get rollin’: 2018 Travel Trailer Camping Trips

It’s the end of February, which means in just a few short weeks, Bessie the Travel Trailer will be out of storage and hitting the road! As you know, most popular campground and RV camp sites fill up very quickly (seriously, some of these places are harder to get in to than FastPasses at DisneyWorld!), so we’ve already mapped out our travels for the first half of the year.

Here’s where we’ve booked some trips so far this year – have you been to any of these?

Weekend glamping in Asheville, NC (and our review of Lake Powhatan Recreation Area)

IMG_4011

When we decided to invest in our first travel trailer, one of the things Gib and I challenged ourselves to do was to use it at least once a month – even if it was just a quick weekend getaway somewhere close to home.

As June rolled into July, we decided to hitch up and head an hour northwest from Greenville, SC to Asheville, NC to take a tour of the legendary Biltmore Estates. (I’d toured America’s largest privately owned home before, but Gib and the boys had never been).  Continue reading “Weekend glamping in Asheville, NC (and our review of Lake Powhatan Recreation Area)”

Our Travel Trailer Wish List

starcraft-launch-19bhs-the-family-glampers
This is not the camper we purchased…this picture was taken during one of our travel trailer shopping trips. But oh, how it gets us so excited to think of our own camper coming in soon!

So, we’re not-so-patiently waiting for the arrival of our first travel trailer! We’ve ordered the one we want through a local dealership, and now we’re just waiting on it to come in. (Is it here yet? Is it here yet? Is it here YET?!).

We’ve been given an estimate of January 2017 for our travel trailer to arrive. I fully expect us to be waiting at the dealership with balloons and a cake to help make it feel more welcome when it gets to us!

In the meantime, Gib and I are making wish lists galore of things we want to have in our travel trailer. Obviously, there’s a LOT we need to get, and we’re already plunking down a chunk of change just investing in the trailer alone.

So we’re trying to be smart and not blow our entire vacation budget in one fell swoop by looking for things we know we need for our first trips, and things we can purchase down the road.

Camper shopping time

It’s a beautiful fall Saturday here in S.C. – a perfect day to go camper shopping! We spoke to a few sales associates at two different RV stores in the area, and narrowed down some options we might like to consider.

Talk about overwhelming! First of all, when we first walked in to the first place, we were completely bowled over by the range of RVs and campers on the lot. From your $500,000 tour busses to the most basic of pop-ups, it was all there.

Not going to lie. We took a few minutes to walk onto one of the mac daddy tour busses and look around. I could definitely get used to that kind of style. A girl can dream, right?
