Let’s go glamping!

The picture above is from DuPont Forest in North Carolina back in 2015. We spent the day hiking up there – for the past several years, the four of us have fallen in love with hiking and camping.

We’ve hiked a lot of the trails in the foothills of South Carolina and North Carolina, and even did tent camping a few times.

But it was a few weeks ago – on the top of Table Rock, S.C., no less, when Gib and I got the harebrained idea to invest in a travel trailer camper for our family.

We’d talked about getting a camper for a while now. You know, usually when we were sitting around a campfire during one of our tent camping trips (which 3/4 of the time were plagued with rain, might I add). We would talk about “one day, when we retire…..”

But at the top of this scenic mountain top, we had our big epiphany. Why wait until we retire? Why not enjoy these moments exploring the U.S.A. with our boys while they’re still young enough to want to hang out with us?

So a decision was born. We decided we wanted to be a camping family. And not just any camping family – a GLAMPING family!

See, I like the outdoors, I like them a lot. I love campfires and seeing the stars in the sky. I love hiking the trails and exploring nature. But I also love a good night’s sleep. And whenever we would tent camp, I would longingly look on to the people cozied up in their RVs (especially when it would start to downpour and we would have to huddle in our car to finish our dinner – let’s just say I was not a “happy camper!”). I not-so-secretly wanted to be glamping, much more than camping.

And so our journey begins here. We’re going to dive right into the world of RVs, travel trailers, fifth-wheels and more. We’re going to learn all kinds of new tricks on how to make our camping trips more fun. And we’re going to make a TON of mistakes as we go – so why not document them all right here for you so you can learn what not to do (or give us advice! We’d love to learn from some seasoned RV travel pros out there!).

Join along in our adventure with our two boys and we discover the great, wide world of trailer camping!

Here we are after hiking 4.2 miles up to the top of Table Rock in South Carolina. This is when we got “the big idea” to become a family of glampers!
